SMT Engineer - Full Time


The Process Engineering Specialist will interact with Product Engineering and Production Staff and serve as their primary interface for SMT processes. You will be responsible for establishing, documenting, maintaining and improving SMT and other processes as required.  You will work within a cross functional team, liaising with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Quality departments to ensure that processes satisfy the product requirements.



  • Provide daily technical support for all SMT machines and processes

  • Responsible for stencil design, fixtures, tooling, materials and out-sourcing

  • Optimize printer parameter, SMT setup and Oven profile to improve SMT utilization and reduce cycle time

  • Program and troubleshoot AOI

  • Create and validate manufacturing processes, conduct design of experiments, conduct defect and failure analyses and prepare required reports

  • Assist with the setup / qualification / initial runs of new processes and equipment and perform NPI review and create follow-up report

  • Develop work instructions, fixtures, work station designs/drawings for SMT related processes

  • Conduct engineering evaluation, statistical analysis, root cause analysis and propose corrective actions for continuous improvement and for resolutions to manufacturing problems including processes, machines, or programming problems

  • Technically document procedure and processes.

  • Manage machine maintenance program and ensure optimum equipment performance for the above processes

  • Operate SMT Line and AOI depending on facility workload

  • Develop SMT key performance indicators (KPIs) for the factory improvement model and work with the quality team to improve Process monitoring, analysis and adjustment

  • Assist with DFM reports



  • Good mechanical aptitude

  • Self starter, a team player, good communication skills and able to handle multiple tasks smoothly

  • Experience with SMT printer, pick and place machines and reflow ovens.

  • Experience with AOI programming and operation

  • Experience with assembly process evaluation, control and validation, FMEA, SPC, and first article process controls, Design of Experiments (DOE), Design for Manufacturability (DFM),

  • Knowledge of electronic assembly and documentation

  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Office applications, Technomatix, GerbTool, Computer Aided Design (CAD) and PC knowledge

  • Knowledge in IPC-A-610 and IPC-J-STD-001

  • Familiarity with ISO procedures, experience working in an ISO 9001 electronics manufacturing environment



  • Electronic or Mechanical Technology Degree or equivalent

  • 3 years in Electronics or related Manufacturing experience preferred

  • Knowledge in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, ISO would be an asset



  • LaGrange, Ohio
