Senior Process Engineer - Full Time

SUMMARY

The Senior Process Engineer will lead process development and improvement initiatives in coordination with Quality, Product Engineering, Program Management, Materials and Production Staff.  Responsible for establishing, documenting, maintaining and improving processes.  Responsible for monitoring and maintaining all production equipment.  Will work within a cross functional team to ensure that processes are effective and efficient resulting in meeting the product requirements specified by the customer and delivering on time.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES​

  • Provide leadership, training, direction and guidance to engineers and technicians.

  • Review, maintain and revise manufacturing work instructions as required in all work centers to ensure clear and precise documentation.

  • Conduct Process FMEA, Gage R&R and geometric tolerancing studies.

  • Initiate and champion continuous improvement projects in the plant to improve processes, facilities, equipment and personnel efficiencies through application of Lean and Six-Sigma methodologies.

  • Work with program management and manufacturing coordinating and implementing activities to support successful new product launches.

  • Provide recommendations on new equipment that may be required to support new customers or to improve manufacturing efficiency.

  • Provide training of operators on new processes and procedures.

  • Conduct Process Capability studies.

  • Perform studies of work center operations to ensure that process flows maximize efficiencies in product build.

  • Develop processes and provide daily support including SMT, Wave Soldering, Hand Soldering, BGA Repair, cleaning, conformal coating, and other processes as they are implemented.

  • Develop and implement measurements for equipment to ensure their operation to required specifications.

  • Evaluate engineering designs and engineering changes for manufacturability and cost impact. Direct the development of  DFx reports.

  • Manage the design of process fixtures and tooling (wave solder pallets, work holders, etc.)

  • Monitor  and optimize reflow and wave solder profiles to improve utilization and minimize defects

  • Conduct root cause analysis and propose corrective actions for resolutions to manufacturing and quality problems due to processes or equipment

  • Conduct design of experiments and defect and failure analyses and prepare required reports

  • Manage machine maintenance and ensure optimum equipment performance for the above processes

 

                                                                                                             

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE​

  • Good mechanical aptitude with hands on experience.

  • Self starter, a team player, good communication skills and able to handle multiple tasks smoothly

  • Excellent knowledge of  Operational Excellence principles, visual workplace, and creating highly efficient electronic assembly and documentation

  • Excellent knowledge of Surface Mount, Thru-hole assembly and manual soldering processes, including, component prep, selective soldering and wave soldering operations.

  • Knowledge of Conformal Coating, RTV and Epoxy application operations

  • Excellent knowledge of process fixtures design (solder pallets, work holders, etc.)

  • Experience with Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) operation and programming

  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Office applications, Gerber Viewer, Computer Aided Design (CAD) and PC knowledge required.

  • Experience with assembly process evaluation, control and validation, FMEA, SPC, and first article process controls,  Design of Experiments (DOE), Design for Manufacturability (DFM)

  • Extensive Knowledge and hands on experience with  IPC-A-610 and IPC-J-STD-001 standards

  • Excellent command of written and spoken English

 

QUALIFICATIONS​

  • Electronic or Mechanical Engineering  BS degree  or equivalent required

  • Experience with MES – Manufacturing Execution Systems  preferred

  • 5+ years Experience in applying Lean/Six-Sigma in Manufacturing required, certification preferred.

  • A minimum of 10 years in Electronics or related Manufacturing experience

  • 5+ years extensive hands-on experience with ISO-9000 registered environment required.

  • 5+ Experience with Medical Device manufacturing ISO13485, FDA 21 CFR820 and Automotive TS16949  Preferred.

  • Electronics Contract Manufacturing experience preferred
