Senior Commodity Manager, Mechanical Engineer - Full Time

Due to growth and expansion in the business, Vexos has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Senior Commodity Manager, Mechanical Engineer. This position will be based either from our US LaGrange, Ohio site, our Markham, Ontario Canada site or remotely. The position requires regular travel, ranging from 10-40% of the time, initially more travel is required at first then thereafter, travel will be scheduled based on business needs. The successful incumbent must have a valid passport and must be able to travel frequently between the US, Canada and Mexico as needed.

SUMMARY

The incumbent will locate, qualify and manage custom mechanical suppliers in North American excluding PCB’s.  Main responsibilities are to liaise between the Quoting team and Suppliers to determine and assess pricing and negotiation on custom build-to-print components.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Interface data electronically between multiple systems/databases as directed by SVP of Global Supply for supplier contracts, Supplier Master File and planning parameters or in support of Supplier managed inventory programs

  • Plan, organize and implement a commodity management process for assigned commodities with responsibilities to multiple sites following concepts of strategic sourcing and total cost management.  Process covers cradle to grave management of the commodity

  • Utilize and apply appropriate business tools and processes (financial, logistical, commercial, data analysis, risk and cost analysis) to attain lowest total acquisition cost (including but not limited to: raw material, freight, transaction processing, invoicing, inspection, rejects, expedite time, lead-time, terms and conditions) for materials.

  • Develop and implement a sourcing plan by commodity that provides the business a proactive view of market trends and directions affecting real-time decision-making and forecasts for long-term business decisions.  Among the market information to be gained is identifying technological advances, avoiding obsolescence issues, and searching for special requirements or alternate manufacturers/suppliers.  Commodities should be sourced with the shortest delivery lead-time, highest quality and the lowest total acquisition cost.

  • Responsible for supplier selection and qualification.  Identify and form strategic alliances with partner suppliers who provide the best quality material, at the lowest price and the best service. Ensure compliance with all applicable Federal, State, Provincial and local regulations and certifications. Manage the supplier base in accordance with established goals and the Vexos supplier certification process criteria.

  • Prepare material quotes for commodities in a rapid cycle time with a high degree of accuracy.

  • As a corporate resource, responsible for initiating timely communications and pertinent information flow for commodities to ensure that the plant is able to make good decisions to meet customer demands and business goals.  Perform the first piece sourcing for custom components.

  • Utilize strong negotiation skills to gain acceptance of ideas and plans. 

 

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Education:  Completed Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent, Preferably in Mechanical / Manufacturing Engineering; knowledge in industrial design would be an advantage.

  • Experience:  At least 5-10 years relevant experience as a seasoned buyer; demonstrated strong understanding of blueprint reading, metallurgy, paint specs, reading customers documentations, worked in the plastics/metals industry and the ability to effectively read and understand prints and spec sheets.

  • Technical Proficiencies:  Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Excel; ERP systems knowledge preferred; AutoCAD, PRO-E or relevant software; blueprint reading​

  • Competencies/Skills:

    • Detail oriented, with highly developed analytical problem-solving skills. 

    • Excellent communication – written and verbal

    • Highly motivated, can-do attitude

    • Self-starter who can work independently

    • Knowledge of procurement management processes, tools and best practices

 

OTHER

  • The position will be based either out of our US La Grange, Ohio site, our Markham, Ontario Canada site, or remotely.

  • The successful candidate must have a valid passport and be willing to travel approximately 10-40% of time to the US, Canada or Mexico at any given times.

  • This position reports to the SVP Supply Chain Management.  This reporting structure may change over time and according to the growth of Vexos through additional business acquisitions.
