Costing Engineer - Full-time 

Permanent Position


The Costing Engineer is a key role, critical in driving the continued growth of the company. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the labor and costed BOM in the quoting process from start to finish. The goal here is not only fast, competitive and accurate quotes, but also thoughtful and quality proposals to support customer requirements. This position reports to the SVP & GM of the Markham Site.



  • Working in collaboration with Vexos Sales and Program Management teams on establishing opportunity definition and quote strategy.

  • Quote Package - To review the package for completeness to ensure all main elements have been received.  (I.e. bill of material, approved vendor list, estimated annual volumes, components prints/specifications required to quote).

  • Establishing quote submittal commit date and tracking completion.

  • Responsible for calculating unit hours of labor based on BOM, drawing, RFQ package from customer

  • Adopt a Total Cost of Ownership approach while estimating the cost of parts and assemblies, including cost of manufacturing, supplier supply chain, transportation, taxation, mark ups, over consumption, risks, manufacturing inefficiencies, etc.

  • Responsible for creating product tree structure in order to communicate to extended team scope of work.

  • Coordinate “make” versus “buy” strategy on sub-assemblies based on manufacturing location capabilities.

  • Format bills of materials for entry into Quote System.

  • Responsible for coordinating materials quoting through online eRFQ tools out to suppliers, or via our Sourcing teams for some custom mechanical components. 

  • Establish preliminary pricing data, drafting of proposal letters and the coordination of pricing reviews with appropriate management staff.

  • Support the transition of proposal data to appropriate functional areas when Vexos has been awarded the business. Position will work directly with Vexos’ Sales team, Program Manager, Procurement, Process and Test Engineering groups, operations staff and management members in carrying out their responsibilities



  • Completed Bachelor’s Degree, College Diploma in Engineering; Electronics, Mechanical, Industrial or other related Engineering Field, or equivalent years relevant education and experience in EMS or similar industries

  • Direct experience in a manufacturing or similar industry work setting with exposure to material pricing, cost accounting, price generation and customer support activities

  • Excellent organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills with a customer-focused, team player attitude.

  • A good awareness of electronics manufacturing processes and supply chain. 

  • Ability to interpret drawings and Bill of Materials data.

  • Effective communication skills (written and verbal).

  • Must be very detail oriented but also capable of strategic thinking.

  • Strong follow-up skills are essential.

  • Excellent time management skills in order to meet deadlines.

  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office, Outlook, ERP systems, Material quoting software).

  • Able to work well under pressure and meet deadlines in a very fast-paced environment.

  • Customer interfacing experience is an asset.
