About the Role
The Test Technician is responsible for performing electronic, mechanical, and electromechanical testing on systems, subassemblies, and components to ensure products function according to specifications. This role supports both production and advanced testing activities by identifying defects, diagnosing failures to the component level, documenting results, and collaborating with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams. The Test Technician plays a key role in maintaining product quality, supporting process improvements, and ensuring timely resolution of test and failure issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct electronic, mechanical, and electromechanical testing using defined procedures and test fixtures
- Locate and interpret test documentation, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings
- Operate test equipment including oscilloscopes, signal generators, multimeters, and complex test fixtures
- Perform visual inspections to identify manufacturing defects and document causes of product failure
- Diagnose and isolate failures to the component level and initiate non-conforming product and rework processes
- Create detailed test results and product failure reports
- Process materials through internal inventory and ERP systems
- Support first-time builds and prototype testing
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, and cross-functional teams to resolve product issues
- Provide feedback for test process improvements and escalate issues as required
- Interact with external customers for technical feedback when needed
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or a related field and/or at least two years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Intermediate understanding of electronic theory and standard electronic components
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, engineering drawings, procedures, and technical documentation
- Experience using electronic test equipment and relevant software tools
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for documenting results and collaborating with teams
- Working knowledge of computer systems and ERP databases
- IPC-610 CIS certification required
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit at a workbench for extended periods, up to 8 hours per day
- Frequent use of hands for handling components, cables, fixtures, and tools
- Occasional reaching, standing, and walking throughout the workday
- Ability to frequently lift and move up to 15 pounds and occasionally push carts up to 50 pounds
- Visual acuity including close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- Ability to work safely around moving mechanical parts and potential electrical hazards in a moderate-noise environment
